Again, just to use yesterday’s words, this is not exactly the height of attractiveness, but note the trees and the relatively nice-looking buildings around.

The key advantage to the hotel, though, came to be of a totally different order: I made a friend there, on my own, unsupervised and unbeknownst to my guides. A real feat. Something that simply doesn’t happen; something that couldn’t have happened to my 7 UK traveler friends who got parked in a high-rise tower hotel in the middle of an island.
This new friend has special status, and a huge perk for North Korea…
